The Combat Cargo Groups and their respective squadrons flew a variety of aircraft during World War Ii, primarily the C-46 and C-47.
In general they transported personnel and supplies to US and Allied forces, primarily to forward areas, and evacuated casualties in China-Burma-India (CBI) Theater of Operations. The 1st, 3rd and 4th Combat Cargo Groups made up the complement of these organizations in WW2.
Groups flew gasoline, oil, vehicles, signal equipment, food, weapons, personnel, animals and munitions.
They supported ground forces duing the battle for North Burma, Flew material for the Ledo Road. Dropped Gurkha paratroops for their assault on Rangoon. If someone needed it, the Combat Cargo Groups would haul it. They faced flying in bad weather across dangerous terrain and were subjected to enemy groundfire.

We accept electronic/scans or originals of pictures and paper records. A General Order could be an award document that contains information on many servicemen. Special Orders may contain transfers or other information. Flight records, accident reports, maintenance logs, after action reports, pilot encounter reports, diaries and biorgraphies; all of these types of documents help us support or mission: preserving your history!
